THE DATA POUR

Episode 6 Featuring Steve MacLauchlan

We’re wrapping up Season 4 of The Data Pour with a familiar face. In Episode 6, Andy LaMora sits down with Steve MacLauchlan (Chief Data Officer, Virginia State Police) at The Veil Brewing Co. in Richmond, Virginia, to explore AI guardrails, data protection, and the skills that helped Steve transition from consulting into his new role. In this conversation, they discuss what has surprised him along the way, how they each use and navigate AI in their daily lives, and their perspectives on the future of technology—plus how he unwinds these days now that he’s moved on from hosting The Data Pour.

Getting to know Steve MacLauchlan:

Steven Maclauchlan (AKA “Steve Mac”) is the Chief Data Officer at the Virginia State Police, where he leads strategic data initiatives to modernize and secure the agency’s information systems. With over 15 years of experience in data architecture, analytics, and digital transformation, Steven is passionate about using data to drive meaningful change in organizations.

Prior to joining VSP, Steven held leadership roles in consulting and data strategy, including serving as Head of Data at Ippon Technologies. He has worked across industries and continents (from Richmond, Virginia, to Auckland, New Zealand!), helping organizations unlock the value of their data through modern platforms, governance frameworks, and AI-driven insights.
